Three layouts, three uses

Columns

The days side by side, in landscape. This is the layout that compares best: one glance tells you which day is packed and which is empty. Best for a planner pinned to a wall, in a kitchen or a staff room.

Blocks

The days as boxes, two or three to a row. Each day gets more height than it does in columns, so there is more room to write. This is the layout to pick when you jot down whole sentences rather than single words.

List

The days stacked down the full width of the sheet, in portrait. Each line runs right across the page: useful for long tasks, a tracker or a diary. It is also the layout that slots most easily into a ring binder.

Dated or reusable

A dated planner carries the real dates of the week you pick: give it any day and the grid starts on the Monday of that week. Handy when you are planning one particular week, or when several people need to be talking about the same one.

A blank planner carries only the names of the days. Print it once, photocopy it twenty times and it will see you through the year. If you are undecided, start with the blank version: it is the one you reprint least.

How many lines?

Too many lines crammed together and the writing becomes unreadable; too few and the page looks bare. The generator shares out the available height between the lines you ask for: if you ask for more than the space allows, it says so rather than producing lines nobody can write on. Eight lines a day suits most people; drop to four or five if you write large.

What this page does not do

It asks for no account and saves none of what you type. The planner is drawn by your browser: pull the plug on your connection and everything carries on working.
